My 6 Months Journey as a Digital Marketing Student at the University of Surrey

Studying at the University of Surrey was one of the best decisions that I have taken in my life. I am currently pursuing my MSc Digital Marketing and Channel Management course at the University of Surrey. I thought to share my 6 months journey as a digital marketing student in this blog.


The campus setting is lovely that is surrounded by hills and there are a lot of trees around the area. There is a lake in the middle of the campus which is beautiful. The buildings are also very nice and modern. I like the environment here. All my lecturers are very supportive and helpful.



I chose to study digital marketing and channel management because I want to upgrade my knowledge in this field. The course has been very interesting and I have learned a lot of new practical theories which I can implement while planning my marketing strategies. I would definitely recommend this university to anyone who is looking to pursuie digital marketing.

During my time here, I have learned a lot about understanding consumer behaviour, digital marketing theories, and how to implement them. I am enjoying my course and I am looking forward to the next 6 months.


Each of the modules in my first semester allowed me to gain in-depth understanding of the various aspects of digital marketing. In my first module Integrated & Digital Marketing Communications, I learned about the various marketing communications tools and how to use them effectively. I also did my first group project in this module, where we had to create an integrated marketing communications plan for a real-life client. My special thanks to Anthony for being a great support in this module.

My second module focused on Consumer Behavior where we learned about the decision-making process of consumers and how businesses can cater to these needs and wants. I thoroughly enjoyed this module as it was very insightful in terms of understanding how different businesses operate and the strategies they use to increase sales and encourage consumer loyalty. My special thanks to Georgia for being a great support in this module.


In my third module Marketing Analytics, I learned how to use R Studio to analyze marketing data and draw insights from it to improve marketing decision-making. My special thanks to Panos & Hassan for being a great support in this module.

In my fourth module Digital Project Development, I learned how to create brand strategies for a brand. Through a mix of lectures, workshops and group work, I was able to develop my skills in digital project management, user experience design, and front-end web development. In this module, I learned about the different social media platforms and how they can be used for marketing purposes. I learned about the different digital marketing tools that are available and how they can be used to create and implement effective marketing campaigns.


Some of the highlighted events that I truly enjoyed at the University are shared below:


Great Fun at Refreshers Fair 2022


When I came to the university, the first event was the 'Refreshers Fair 2022'. There were so many stalls and different activities to take part in. I particularly enjoyed the ones that were interactive and hands-on. It was great to see so many people out, enjoying themselves and getting involved. I enrolled in a few clubs including TEDx, Surrey Islamic Community, etc

TEDxSurreyUniversity Refresh



I was one of the volunteers for this amazing TEDxSurreyUniversity Refresh event. It was a great experience to work with such an amazing team. I learned a lot about event management and marketing. It was also great to see so many people coming together and sharing their ideas.


Practical Industry Experience with MR Solutions



I completed our Corporate Challenge with MR SOLUTIONS GROUP.. It was truly a great experience where we learned and implemented a lot of things.


We created a website on Wix.com with chatbot automation and gave a presentation with a detailed analysis of Buyer Persona, Customer Journey Mapping, SEO strategy, Competitor analysis and Social Media tool recommendations.


A Visit to Greyfriars Vineyard



Jim our lecturer organized the trip and it was a great opportunity to learn about the wine-making process and taste some of the finished products. The first thing that struck me about Greyfriars vineyard was the beautiful setting of the vineyard. It was situated in a picturesque valley with rolling hills and a river running through it. The second thing that struck me was the delicious wine that they produce. I would recommend a visit to Greyfriars vineyard if you are ever in the area.

The vineyard is family run and they have been making wine for over 40 years. The vineyard is situated in an ideal location for growing grapes. The climate is mild with cool nights and there is plenty of sunlight during the day.


A Visit to Silent Pool Distillers & Mandira's Kitchen


Another trip that was organized by our lecturer was a visit to Silent Pool Distillers and Mandira's Kitchen. Silent Pool Distillers is a small family-run business that produces gin, vodka, and whisky. The distillery is located in the countryside near Guildford. We were given a tour of the distillery and told about the process of making gin and vodka. We were also given a chance to taste the different products.


Mandira's Kitchen is an Indian restaurant located in Guildford. We had a delicious meal packed with a variety of dishes.


Hangout with Friends at Thorpe Park


I had great fun visiting Thorpe Park with my friends. We went on some of the most thrilling rides and activities. I would definitely recommend a visit to Thorpe Park if you're looking for a fabulous day out.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the progress I have made in my first 6 months as a digital marketing student at the University of Surrey. I am looking forward for the next 6 months.
